So if supply side and logistics inefficiences in monsoon season, can affect Onion Prices to the extent raising onion prices to Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg, how can you buy onions for Rs 35 per kilogram ?
Amidst a steep rise in consumer end retail prices of raw Onions, a staple of Indian households and Kanpur catering and hospitality sector, onion prices have been bringing tears to the eyes of Kanpur consumers.
It was a pleasant surprise to note that while Onion retail prices have been holding steady at Rs 60 to Rs 80 a kilo, NCCF has stepped in with a fleet of battery operated mini distribution and vending vans.
These are manned by two men with loads and loads of red onions, before the winter harvest of Indian and Nashik Onions enter the market.
The NCCF vans have been selling onions at the rate of Rs 35 a kilo with a maximum quota of 2 kg per retail customer.
It was a pleasant surprise to encounter one such van in the heart of Naveen Market today. Customers looking to stock up on onions for post Navratri feasts can avail of this thoughtful onion offer from NCCF vans. But do remember, they are not allowed to distribute any plastic bags. So make sure you carry a good old canvas bag to take your quota of 2 kilos of NCCF raw onions home.
